The first real settlement took place around 1620 by pilgrims, who wanted to spread their European religion. At that time the soil was poorly suited for growing grain before the Indians taught the Europeans to adapt to the conditions in America. Then they spread from Plymouth across the continent.
Maybe the most famous fact is the displacement of different Indian peoples who settled throughout the States. At the end the Whites settled the whole continent.
